Year 4
Hello and welcome to the Year 4 class page. This is where you'll find all the information you need to know about what we'll be learning in Year 4 this half-term.
In our reading lessons, we will finish reading “Rainforests in 30 seconds” which is a lovely non-fiction book with lots of facts and information about different rainforests before moving on to ‘Ivan the Terrible’. This a humorous short novel about a foreign exchange student.
In English, we will be exploring a book called ‘Until I met Dudley’ which is a delightfully ingenious text that uses fantasy and reality to investigate the fascinating world of technology. Children write their own explanation texts for everyday objects, inventing their own imaginary responses to the question of how they work, before researching and describing them properly.
In Maths, we will be continuing our work on decimals including partitioning decimals in different ways before looking at shape, time and money We will then be able to apply our knowledge in work around money. We will also continue to practice our times tables through songs, games and Times Tables Rock Stars in preparation for the MTC check.
Our science topic of living things will help us learn more about the plants and animals in our local environments as well as grouping and classifying living things in a variety of different ways. We will also look at how environments can change and how this can affect different living things while exploring what effect we, as humans, have on our environment.
Our history topic this term will be Vikings where the children will look at the myths, legends and folklore around this group of people before examining the reasons behind them wanting to come to Britain and the impact this had.
