Be the best you can be

Year 3

Hello and welcome to the Year 3 class page. This is where you will find all of the information about our learning this term!

In English we will be reading Leon and the Place Between by Angela McAllister and The Wilderness by Steve McCarthy, both of our texts this term follow the theme of ‘Magic and Wonder’.

In Maths, we are focusing on place value involving numbers up to 100. The children will recall and build upon their prior knowledge from KS1 and establish a secure understanding of this topic ready for our addition and subtraction topic later on in the term.

In Geography, we will be investigating why some earthquakes cause more destruction than others. We will focus on the Christchurch earthquake of 2011 and then move onto understanding why some areas of the world are more severely damaged than others.

This term we will focus on Design and Technology where we will learn about seasonal foods and the positives and negatives of this. The children will have the opportunity to practise their cooking skills and techniques as well as develop their own flavour profiles using seasonal ingredients.

In Science, we will be investigating light and dark, with the children recognising that we need light to see and that dark is the absence of light.

In PE, Year 3 will be covering invasion games and PE fundamentals. In computing we will concentrate on Computing systems and networks and in RE, we will be thinking about what Christians learn from the creation story. The children will also start Spanish this year and this term will learn greetings.
